I wasn’t ready, but the baby was coming.

My birth story is not really unique, I have heard similar stories before. However there were a few things that happened that I wanted to share in case it can help someone else.
While I was pregnant, I was very careful not to over consume pregnancy media. I limited the amount of research I did, just so I could avoid getting anxious. Thankfully I have a few YouTube influencers I really trust who had some pregnancy related content and I felt it was time to watch.
Both Jessica Braun (@itsjessicabraun) and Alexadrea Garza (@alexandreagarza) had hospital bag videos that seems interesting and they were the first videos I decided to watch. To give a little bit of context, at this point I was about 35 weeks pregnant. When I saw these videos I started to pack a wheeled carry on bag as my hospital bag. I purchased the items that were missing and the bag completely ready by the end of the week.
At an appointment that Friday (four days after my bag was packed), I went to a doctor for an ultrasound and they were a bit concerned about something they did not see. They recommended that the following day I visit the hospital and request an ultrasound to verify what they had seen. So Saturday around 1pm, I went to the hospital. Once the ultrasound was done, the doctor was telling me that they were ready to send me home, when the machines started making noise.
My blood pressure had increased very quickly and they immediately made the decision to keep me in the hospital. I wasn’t ready! I had a few weeks left to go. No matter what I was feeling, it was baby time. My labor was induced and after much waiting, baby girl was born Monday afternoon.
I was so thankful to have my bag already packed, it was so easy to have them picked up at our apartment and brought to us. I would recommend that if you are ready to pack your bag, go ahead and do it. Don’t worry if it feels early, if it makes you comfortable, you for it! I would recommend both Jessica’s video and Alexandrea’s video. I got a lot of good ideas from both of them.
I created a printable checklist for packing your hospital bag and I would like to share it with my blog readers for free. Click here to download your hospital bag checklist and click here for links to the things I packed in my bag.
